Only a little more than one third of the total labour force has been employed in industry for the last fifteen years, though 9,700 industrial jobs have been created since 1954. The generally little local firms supplied almost half the new jobs. The building trade, the public works and the pharmaceutic industries grew notably. The metal products industries developed more slowly while food-processing was steady. The new factories and the firms decentralized from the Paris metropolitan area supply more than half the new jobs.
