The structure of Caracas. - Abstract. - The article is a study of the structure of Caracas, a town which could be described as an incoherent union of homogeneous elements. Until the 1920s the development of the town was slow and irregular. This fact can be explained in terms of natural disasters, such as the earthquake of 1812, in terms of the war of independence, and finally, in that of civil disorder. Starting in the 1930s the huge increase in oil production and the new policy of centralisation brought about an extremely rapid growth of the city.
