Honey and darts. How zoological taxonomy and ethnobiology help define gender among the Andoke (Columbian Amazonia) This article is about the entomological notions of the Andoke, inhabitants of the Colombian Amazon forest. Insects are of great practical and symbolic importance for this group. This study focusses on the classification system and the knowledge of the insects among the andoke. The analysis puts the emphasis on the Hymenoptera, concentrating mostly on the Meliponinae and the Vespidae. The Andoke daily life, like most northwest amazonian societies, is organized around gender distinctions.
