Abstract. — Are the rural districts, under the pressure of urban expansion, still able to preserve some control over their territory ? The aim of this paper is to confront this question with that of the apparent renewal of the rural areas in southern Isère, constantly exposed to the push and pull of Grenoble and the scene of very real efforts in local development. The first part undertakes to show the evolution observed from 1975 to 1982.
