Getting beyond Exile. Degrees of Mediation and Strategies of Literary Transfer adopted by Eastern Europeans exiled in France . The article offers a comparative analysis of the , trajectories of four exiles (Romanian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish), who arrived in France : after the Communist regimes were set up in. Eastern Europe and became translators. The approach makes it possible to bring out - given the specific, hyper-politicised context - various strategies of literary transfer. It also compares the increasing amount of mediation observed with the varying use of the position of exiled ! person and of initial social resources, the economic situation of the country of origin and the differing degrees of intensity of political commitment.■ I...
