International audienceThis article examines how the women's health movement emerged in West Germany. It shows that the abortion-rights movement fostered the development of a feminist critique of medical knowledge between 1971 and 1975. It reveals feminists’ ambivalent relationship to physicians and their knowledge and that this ambivalence reflects the diversity of the medical profession. It shows that women’s health activists appropriated knowledge from physicians not only from the United States and France but also from the Eastern Bloc to oppose it to the knowledge of West German practitioners. These activists also formed alliances with German doctors who were sympathetic to their movement and promoted with them the method of vaccum aspir...
