Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston UniversityThe central problem of this research was to formulate and test hypotheses concerning the effect of cooperation and competition (the independent variables) on small group cohesiveness, social influence, and communication. Until recently, studies of cooperation and competition have neglected the problem of the social processes that develop in cooperative and competitive relationships. By integrating conceptualizations of cooperation and competition within the framework of an approach to small group communication, it was hoped that a contribution could be made to both areas of investigation.[TRUNCATED
