The easily accessible computing power offered by cloud infrastructures, coupled with the "Big Data" revolution, are increasing the scale and speed at which data analysis is performed. Cloud computing resources for compute and storage are spread across multiple data centers around the world. Enabling fast data transfers becomes especially important in scientific applications where moving the processing close to data is expensive or even impossible.
