Metropolitan France is free of rabies in non-flying mammals, but the risk of rabies persists, particularly in connection with domestic carnivores. The latter can, through transboundary movements, introduce the virus into France and contribute to the exposure of local animal and human populations, and even initiate the spread of the virus in the country.The aim of this work was to quantify the rabies risk associated with domestic carnivores in metropolitan France and to evaluate the associated management measures.
