The determination of the hygro-elastic behavior of wood under mechanical loading or environmental changes is of great practical interest, because of its use in many fields such as construction, industry, furniture, etc. Classically, wood can be considered as a hierarchical material, i.e. a material with a multi-scale structure. For many problems involving such materials, the heterogeneous structure at a particular scale can be replaced by a homogeneous structure with similar properties determined by applying homogenization methods. In this thesis, we aim to study the influence of the real cell wall morphology by considering wavy and interconnected cellulosic fibrils on the macroscopic behavior of wood, rather than considering them parallel ...
