Biosensors result from the association of a bioreceptor layer with transducer which converts the specific binding event, between the analyte and the bioreceptor layer, into a physical signal easily measurable. In order to develop biosensors, attention must be pay at once to the bioreceptor layer elaboration and to the understanding of the transducer mechanism. The aim of this work was to develop a piezoelectric immunosensor with a 27 MHz quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). By recording the QCM frequency changes, mass variation due to the specific binding of the analyte onto the corresponding antibody layer, immobilized on the QCM electrode surface, can be determined.
