Effects of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) on radiation (X-rays and UV) induced chromosomal damage in PHA-stimulated peripherical human leukocytes have been studied. Following parameters for studying chromosomal damage were measured: (a) chromosomal aberrations, (b) micronuclei formation and (c) increase in DNA dispersion. Results show that (1) presence of 2-DG (5 mM) for 2 hr at the time of PHA-stimulation of leukocytes reduced the proliferation response to 56% of controls, however, when added 4 hr after PHA-stimulation it had no effect on proliferation, (2)2-DG(5 mM), when present for 2 hr after irradiation, decreased the radiation-induced chromosomal damage and (3) 2-DG alone did not induce any chromosomal damage. These observations are in agre...
