Reports the findings of a teleconferencing study. Two studios were acoustically prepared, and pure audio connections and moving-picture- supported audio conferences were examined in trials. Sound connections were varied with regard to number of channels, bandwidth and transmission processes; picture conferences were varied with respect to sound connection, transmission bandwidth, number of channels, and type of representation. The authors conclude that before expensive picture transmission is considered, a successful teleconference requires good sound transmission
