In recent years military intervention by states in the conflicts occurring in other countries dominated television news on Africa. In this work the emphasis fall on the underlying societal reasons for African conflict and intervention, on the history of intervention by extra continental, as well as by other African armed forces, on the policies, risks and costs involved, and on the international political and legal framework within which such intervention occurs
