Age at sexual debut is an important indicator for exposure to heterosexual HIV transmission. Studies show that early sexual debut is associated with increased likelihood of risky sexual behaviour later in life (Ma et al. 2009; Sandfort et al. 2008 and Gomez et al. 2008).
