The other State of the Nation volumes illuminated aspects of South Africa's policy towards Zimbabwe since the onset of the current crisis in 2000. But the military aspects of South Africa's policy towards Zimbabwe have received little attention. This chapter explores the past, present and future of military relations between South Africa and Zimbabwe within the context of former president Thabo Mbeki's policy of quiet diplomacy
