Major Edward W. Wynkoop. (June 19, 1836 – September 11, 1891) During his time at Fort Lyon, CO, Major Wynkoop worked towards peace with the nearby Native American tribes. He was transferred prior to the Sand Creek Massacre, but received letters from Lieutenant Joseph Cramer and Captain Silas S. Soule describing the events.
