In politics the correlation between packaging and environment is almost exclusively judged from the aspect of packaging waste. In some countries the effect of this attitude can already be seen in waste legislation. In this contribution a connection between economic and ecological aspects of packaging is made in a critical discussion of the topics increase of production output and production value on one side and contribution to waste amount and the one-way/multiple-way problem on the other side. Also some possibilities of reducing the packaging waste amount are shown
