A method for the estimation of respiratory potential in marine biological material is discussed. The method, which depends upon photometric assay for a dehydrogenase enzyme by the reduction of tetrazolium salt, showed that activity measurements are positively, linearly, related to oxygen consumption measurements. Respiratory potential may be measured immediately upon securing the material, or at a later time
