An on-line expert system for supervisory control operating in a real-time environment is described. By means of an interface, low level information from the process plant is preprocessed, condensed and generalized, yielding a high-level descriptions of characteristic states of the technical process, varying slowly in time. Thus a diagnosis can be performed by a static inference engine. Several separate inference processes can be activated simultaneously. The computational processes are scheduled by a monitor-module according to situation-dependend priorities
