Increasing model variety and reduced product lives call nowadays for production system enabling smaller and smaller batches to be cost-effectively manufactured with high productivity and quality. This is only possible by flexibly automating the production process. An important aspect in this context is the shortening of the setting-up time. High cutting and feed rates as well as sealing off the work area in the case of numerically-controlled machine tools make it more difficult for machine operators to visually monitor the machining cycles. For this reason the verification of newly prepared NC programs directly at the machine-tool takes up considerable time and can lead to damage to the machine. ...
