Fiberoptic sensors are assumed to play an important role in the near future. Different types of sensors for pressure, liquid level, distance have been developed. Their main characteristics are summarized. Most sensors measure the light intensity which is modulated by the physical parameter. For the very sensitive sensors an interferometric phase measuring technique is used. The optical fiber gyroscope is an example of this technique
