The inspection of pipe and sewer systems is of high importance for the environment protection. You can get the most comprehensive survey about possible defects by a visual inspection. If a system has to meet all requirements of a pipe and sewer inspection system, the proceedding of the visual inspection has to be partly automatic at least. In the present contribution it will be shown how to improve the filtering ot the acquired images in order to make the evaluation easier. On the other hand it will be shown how to represent the geometrical character of the defects partly automatically. These solutions are a contribution to the realization of a new generation of pipe and sewer inspection systems
