During the last years an increasing degree of laser welding applications in industry can be noticed. Due to small focus diameters combined with high laser power deep and narrow weld seams can be realized at high welding speeds. Apart from these advantages the use of laser beams as welding tools leads to specific problems. For example joining of butt joints geometries requires an expensive clamping device, to minimize the gap between both parts. Often a gap within the scale of the focus diameter leads to not acceptable seam geometries with weld sink and root suck-up
