The paper surveys the application of laser technologies for preparation of non-conventional coating systems in engineering, optics and electronics. Thin solid films with thicknesses between some nm and some Mym can be produced by the Laser-Pulse-Vapor deposition technique. For macrocoating between some Mym and some mm, the laser-melt deposition represents a suitable method. Technology, properties and applications are characterized and discussed
