The direct measurement of metal cutting forces by means of force sensors is only feasible in very few cases, as it involves an intervention into the constructive structure of the tool. However, the forces can be determined indirectly via a measurement of expansion at the relative machine components with much less effort. In the following, it is demonstrated how the quality of the required sensor system can be determined even before its production by means of FEM simulations and selected measurements of calibration
