For the fatigue design of high quality cast components the information about service loading, geometry, material behaviour in dependency of alloy, casting technology, heat treatment and surface state must be available. The influence of these parameters on operational strength is demonstrated on the examples of selected ductile cast iron materials, aluminium alloys and nickel base alloys as well as cast steel. In case of safety components, their functionability and fatigue life must be guaranteed by service strain measurements and fatigue tests under variable amplitudes
