Heterogeneous distributed information systems increasingly are built on existing autonomous components, which are integrated as legacy systems'. This paper discusses the integration of heterogeneous information systems on the basis of an object-oriented client/server architecture. Specially the requirements to support system's evolution and to offer a practical system, well integrated in a specific domain, are considered. Starting-point are approaches out of the context of object-oriented modeling, distributed heterogeneous database systems and distributed object systems
