Abstract The sedimentary system extending east of Dunkirk city is characterized by a landward migration of coastal dunes. The sediment budget was roughly balanced during the last few decades due to the opposite action of waves, storms and human disturbance on the one hand dune widening, blowout re-filling by aeolian sedimentation and recolonization by vegetation on the other.
