Abstract The alpine catchment of l'Eglise (Montagne des Arcs, left bank of Isère river, Tarentaise) was the scope of a study of slope erosion and streamflow processes. This watershed is similar to the nearby la Ravoire catchment where one streamflood generated in 1981 a series of catastrophical mudflows and debris flows. The study aimed to : (1) understand how a small catchment in alpine environment behaves under anthropogenic influence, and (2) which factors can render the slopes unstable and lead to the formation of streamfloods and debris flows.Résumé Le bassin-versant de l'Eglise (Montagne des Arcs) sur la rive gauche de l'Isère en Tarentaise a fait l'objet d'une recherche consacrée à l'érosion torrentielle. Il a été choisi pour sa similitude avec le bassin- versant de la Ravoire où une crue exceptionnelle a provoqué en 1981 des coulées de boue et de débris catastophiques. Cette étude a pour objectif d'appréhender le fonctionnement hydrologique d'un bassin- versant alpin représentatif et soumis à la pression anthropique, puis de dresser un diagnostic des facteurs d'instabilité qui peuvent conduire au déclenchement d'une crue torrentielle, voire de coulées de débris.Thouret Jean-Claude, Vivian Huguette.
