Grundlagen für ein nationales Umweltindikatorensystem: Erfahrungen mit der Weiterentwicklung des OECD-Ansatzes

The article analyzes the experiences of an further development of the OECD environmental indicator system. The improvements and the adaption to the German situation result in environmental indicators which are characterized by clarity and comprehensibility, consideration of the ecological context and realisation in short time with reasonable costs. The improved indicator system clearly better fullfills the scientic requirements compared to the OECD approach. However, even the improved system still needs further development, especially with regard to data acquisition, aggregation of indicators and development of environmental targets corresponding to the environmental indicators
