The rains which fall during the colder half of the year on the area of Saint-Etienne are particularly interesting because the town is located in the East of the Massif Central and this accounts for all sorts of falls. The dry winter is essentially due to lack of mediterranean rainfalls from the S-E which grow heavier from April on. In december and January the amount of rainfall is accounted for by the numerous though inefficient oceanic rainfalls from the N-W, whose disapearance explains the February minimum. The snow is an irregular and whimsical phenomenom which may as well last for 6 months asbe inexistent.
