A good correlation was found between residual stress valued at the crack tip obtained with micromagnetic and X-ray measurements; respectively. For the first time quantitative results on residual stress propagation and distribution of plastic deformations in front of a crack tip of pre-stressed specimens were obtained nondestructively, with high local resolution, and wihtin a very short measuring times. However, the measuring results presented here have to be supported statistically by further research with a larger population of specimens
