We propose a novel concept based on an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) for multiplexing two or more wavelength bands or broadcast wavelengths with low loss and low crosstalk. A special component for a PON upgrade application has been realized. This device distributes and multiplexes a common wavelength (1.3 mu m) onto an equidistant distributed eight-channel wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) spectrum (1.55 mu m).
