The new Civil Code of Quebec, in its provisions on the law of property, may interest students of comparative law for two reasons : first, some of the re-formulations adopted to express classical institutions of property law suggest that the traditional notion of real rights has been extended to new — and sometimes unexpected — applications ; second, the reception of the concept of the trust (fiducie) prompts the reflection that Quebec law is striving to give a new global configuration to patrimonial entitlements.
