Considering either the beginning, the middle or the latter part of the XXh century, one is struck by the extent of the influence of the French doctrine on Quebec case law and doctrine. For the interpretation of the Civil Code of Lower Canada, the French doctrine has always played a significant role, although it has varied from time to time. The apogée is in the 40's, 50's and 60's.
