Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation has developed a method for early fault detection and diagnosis of the electromechanical drive units through a combined assessment of the changes of time and temperature behaviors. Damages of the mechanical components occur usually in the tribologic contacts and lead to changed time and temperature behavior due to energy dissipation. The features will be extracted and then interpreted with rules, and this by means of minimal models that are oriented on the approach of the maintenance staff
