The development of agents, which are working together to accomplish complex tasks, needs efficient appliances - in particular if a great number of developers are involved in designing and implementing the functionalities of the agents and the communication between them. In this article it is shown how a formal ontology and an efficient monitoring of the communication can help to increase development efficiency and to decrease the needs of searching error causes. The ontology also provides ideal means for describing in a uniform and precise way the complete functionality that all of the various components of the system offer to the user
