Independent expert committees : expertise in the service of a supranational democracy ? Starting from a deliberately limited study object - independent expert committees -, this article looks at the tensions in the EU between the various models of democratization. It shows that the representative democracy model remains in the EU subject to serious limits. The creation of independent expert committees is the direct outcome of the European Parliament's inability to implement formal mechanisms of parliamentary control such as censure or parliamentary investigation committees.
