Cousins ou frères? Attitudes politiques et conceptions du parti chez les militants socialistes français et italiens

Beyond what is common to both French and Italian socialist militants and beyond the differences due to party factions, there is a clear divergence as to political orientations and conceptions of party action. Italian Socialist Party (PSI) militants favor an economie approach influenced by economie liberalism, whereas those of the French Socialist Party (PS) stick to traditional socialist conceptions and are more open to "new left" themes and contestation. Culturally, the PSI is pro-European and pro-atlanticist, while the PS is anti-imperialist and reluctant towards the European idea. On a pragmaticism-dogmatism axis, French socialists are more attached to principles, the Italiens more realistic. These data put light on the divisions among European socialists facing the challenge of power, at a key moment for the international socialist movement.Au-delà d'un fond commun, et de divergences internes par tendance, les militants français et italiens se séparent nettement, au plan des orientations politiques et à celui des conceptions de l'action partisane. Par exemple, les militants du PSI ont une approche économique marquée par l'économie libérale, ceux du PS adhèrent aux conceptions socialistes traditionnelles. Le PS intègre plus volontiers que le PSI des thèmes venus de la gauche «nouvelle» et contestataire. La culture PSI est pro­européenne et teintée d'atlantisme, celle du PS est anti-impérialiste et réticente face à l'idée européenne. Sur un axe pragmatisme-dogmatisme, les socialistes français se veulent plus attachés aux principes, et les italiens plus réalistes dans l'action. Ces données éclairent les clivages qui séparent les socialistes européens face au pouvoir, en un moment-charnière pour le mouvement socialiste international.Cayrol Roland, Ignazi Piero.
