An axially symmetric 3D-light stripe sensor has been developed which is adapted to the geometry of a sewer pipe. The 3D-coordinates of the visible area can be measured absolutely. A very quick detection and rough classification of the interior damages is already possible through a qualitative assessment of the acquired patterns. The sensor was integrated into commercial inspection camera and successfully tested in a real sewer
