An axially symmetric 3-D-light stripe sensor has been developed by the Fraunhofer Institute IITB. The sensor concept is adapted to the geometry of fresh water pipes which allows the absolutely precise measurements of the 3-D surface coordinates. A very quick detection and rough classification of the inside damages is already possible with a qualitative assessment of the acquired patterns. The sensor can easily be integrated into an usual inspection systems from the market and was successfully tested in a real pipe system
