The deconstruction of the nation-state : the Belgian example. Since 1830, Belgium has offered the example of a constantly changing nation-state. After the unity period of the 19th century, the emergence of Flemish autonomism and the Walloon identity crisis during the 20th century skewed the institutional and intellectual basic data of the nation-state construction.
