La décadence, une histoire d'influences

In the literature of the end of the XIXth Century, a mythology of rupture and the daim to influence as creative dynamics coexist. This paper is based upon the study of an article of Remy de Gourmont Stephane Mallarmé et l'idée de décadence, and it analyses the birth of the concept of source anormale in the discours of critic. We want to point out the nature of the underground crisis linked with the pathological aspect of the influence, and we show above ail the meaning and the importance of the oxymore made by the influence - the influence of fine arts here - claimed as "source originale". We have focused on the discourse about the two main masters in the literature of the end of the century : Wagner and Gustave Moreau, in the works of Peladan and in a novel of Ernest Chesneau, which is less known than the works of Huysmans and Lorrain about painter, but which proceeds explicitly from the painting of Moreau La Chimere.II s'agit de montrer comment coexistent dans la littérature fin-de-siècle une mythologie de la rupture et la revendication de l'influence comme dynamique créatrice. L'étude repose sur un article de Remy de Gourmont, « Stéphane Mallarmé et l'idée de décadence », qui analyse l'émergence dans le discours critique du concept de source anormale. Nous nous attachons à mettre en évidence la nature de la crise sous-jacente à la détermination pathologique de l'influence, plus encore à définir le sens et la portée de l'oxymore que réalise une influence -celle des beaux-arts ici - revendiquée comme « source originale ». Nous avons retenu plus particulièrement le discours qui s'attache aux deux maîtres de la littérature fin-de-siècle que sont Wagner et Gustave Moreau, dans les œuvres de Péladan et dans un roman d'Ernest Chesneau, moins connu que les textes consacrés au peintre par Huysmans ou Lorrain, mais procédant explicitement d'un tableau de l'artiste, La Chimère.Melmoux-Montaubin Marie-Françoise.
