A range of surface finishing techniques have long been used on an industrial scale, to create an optimal surface coating and finish for solar energy systems. A novel approach is based on a micro-patterned plastic surface formed by a replication method. Such surfaces are mainly intended for solar protection systems, and allow the use of diffuse daylight. Initial laboratory prototypes have been completed. Conversion of this to full-scale industrial manufacture and creating a marketable product remains to be achieved
