In this paper we review the high potential of micro and nano structured optical fibers for the realization of ultrafast laser systems with high pulse energies in the hundred J-range and high repetition rate up to the MHz-range. These fiber based chirped pulse amplification systems are used for high precision micro machining of solid materials
