The role of the public sector in French economic policy By its very size, the public sector plays an essentiel role in French Economie Policy. The goals of such a policy are clear : Macroeconomic Stabilization and income redistribution. However this tool has been misused and a massive degradation has occurred since 1973 : increase of the deficit financed by the general budget; deterioration of the financial ratios due to price control, rapid growth of labor costs and enormous investment programs.
