Nowadays, Finite Element (FE) Analysis are an important tool for simulation of the weld fabrication processes and to determine microstructural changes, residual stresses and distortion during and after welding. The main input parameters are the physical and mechanical material properties within the temperature region from room temperature to the melting point and the correct modelling of the heat source for the actual welding process. As an example, for an automotive component made of aluminium alloy the procedure of welding simulation and the results of distortion of the component are demonstrated
