This paper develops the concept of the learning economy. It argues that the current phase of capitalist competition is characterised by accelerating change that confronts individuals and firms with the requirement to learn new skills and forget old ones. Workers with little training and rigid skills who have not learn to learn are especially exposed. The paper illustrates some of the most fundamental mechanism with new data from the Danish economy that demonstrate how intensified competition results in more innovation but also in a loss of jobs for the unskilled workers.Cet article développe le concept d'économie de la connaissance.
