This article shows that a large number of factors (relating to the production process from presentation to packaging, to the range of manufactured products, to marketing practises and consumption habits) prevent the French poultry market from being oligopolistic or having monopolistic competition. The poor economic profitability in the poultry slaughtering industry is also explained (competition between firms and type of capital entering the branch).
